Necromancy has always been one of the Witch’s most iconic playstyles. In Path of Exile 1, minions dominated vast stretches of the meta: powerful, durable, and capable of clearing screens with little direct interaction. But they were also criticized for feeling too automated, too passive, and lacking tactical nuance. cheap PoE 2 Currency fixes these issues with a complete overhaul of minion AI, command interactions, progression, and synergy with the Witch’s spellcasting.
The core philosophy of PoE2’s minion redesign is agency—not only for minions, but for the player. Minions now behave less like floating autonomous turrets and more like extensions of your own magical will. They follow positioning cues more intelligently, respond to target priorities faster, and use their active abilities with better timing.
One of the first major improvements is the new Minion Command System. With a quick input, players can direct their undead to focus a specific enemy, cluster around a defensive location, or push into a formation. This gives summoners control without overwhelming them. It also allows the Witch to guide her army during boss fights or dangerous encounters instead of watching helplessly as minions scatter.
Another major improvement is minion personality archetypes. Zombies, Skeletons, Golems, and Spectres each have behaviors tailored to their theme. Zombies are now bruisers that initiate fights and hold ground, absorbing hits with their newfound resilience. Skeletons function as expendable shock troops with faster attack pacing and quicker respawn mechanics. Spectres, in PoE2, are less about copying random monster abilities and more about harmonizing with your element, providing strong aura or spell effects.
Perhaps the biggest win for summoners is minion ability evolution. As minions level with you, they unlock new behaviors and spell patterns. Skeleton Mages may begin by firing single projectiles but later gain charged blasts or chain-casting waves. Zombies might learn slam attacks or taunting roars. Golems—always a fan favorite—benefit the most, gaining new elemental abilities that align with your Witch’s chosen specialization.
The days of minions doing everything while you run circles are over. In PoE2, minions respond directly to your actions. Casting a Fire spell may cause Fire-aligned minions to ignite themselves and explode on death. A Cold spell might empower Frost minions to freeze enemies more effectively. Many minions also “sync-cast” when you use your abilities, releasing their own whenever you activate certain spells.
This creates a dynamic, almost rhythmic battlefield where summoner gameplay feels active, reactive, and satisfying.
Defensively, minions now scale better with gear and passives. Rather than relying purely on hidden multipliers, you now have clearer options to invest in their durability—resistances, health, armor, and ward-like protections. Bosses in PoE2 hit harder and more deliberately than in PoE1, so having reliable defenses for minions is essential to keep your army alive.
Spectres also work differently. Instead of being at the mercy of monster choices, players now select spectral families that determine their abilities. Want a spectral mage? Choose the Arcane Phantasm line. Want a bruiser? Select a Guardian Spirit type. This makes spectres a reliable part of build planning, reducing the frustration of hunting for the “perfect spectre” in PoE1.
The Witch’s minion-focused passive tree clusters are more intuitive and powerful. Early investment feels rewarding instead of requiring dozens of points. There are distinct archetypes: Horde Commander (mass minions), Arcane Bond (caster minions), Unholy Guard (tanky minions), and Synergist (hybrid spellcaster/summoner). This flexibility encourages hybrid builds—something that wasn’t practical in PoE1.
Unique items further enhance necromancy. Some grant minions on-hit triggers. Others give you control over minion death explosions. A few increase your ability to amplify minion abilities when casting your own spells. Necromancer gameplay becomes more about orchestrating timing windows and combos rather than assembling a mindless zombie parade.
Overall, PoE2 redefines summoner gameplay. The Witch’s minions are smarter, more interactive, and more in sync with your playstyle. Summoners feel like powerful commanders, not passive puppet masters. And with expanded customization, minion builds promise incredible endgame potential. For players who love strategic depth and occult fantasy, the Witch’s necromancy in PoE 2 Currency is reborn.
