My AC died in the middle of summer and I nearly lost my mind

I don't think I've ever been so miserable in a car as I was last week when the air conditioning completely gave up on the way home from work. It was about 4 in the afternoon, stuck on Hessa Street in stop and go traffic, and within minutes it felt like a sauna in there. I had the windows down but that just pushed hot air around and by the time I got home I had a headache and felt genuinely sick from the heat. Took it to a garage the next day and they said the compressor was gone and the system had a leak somewhere. While they were fixing it I started reading up on ensuring your car performs in hot conditions because I clearly can't go through that again. Found this article on dubaiweekly that talked about heat-resistant tech and how important it is to maintain the cooling system properly here. Now I'm paranoid about every little thing and wondering if I should be doing more preventative stuff before next summer hits. Anyone else had their AC fail at the worst possible time?
