Posted in the topic Is a payroll number the same as an employee ID? in the forum Off-Topic Discussions

While some companies will get away with using, they are actually distinct. Payroll number, in other words, is for payroll processing and tax documentation or Internal Revenue, while employee ID helps in general HR and administration processes. Office access, employee database or work assignment EID, and payroll numbers can be used; salaries payments are linked to payroll number and the tax reporting. Different organizations may or may not keep these two functions isolated, and some of them may have the same number for both functions.
